Job Description

About the Role:

We are recruiting for two Room Leader positions at Lyons Early Learning Centre, an environment grounded in relationships, play‑based learning, and a strong commitment to children’s rights, wellbeing, and agency. Our philosophy emphasises warm, responsive caregiving; intentional and reflective pedagogy; and collaborative partnerships with families and community. Toddler Room Leader

This position is responsible for leading our Toddler Room, supporting children during their important early developmental years. The role has a strong focus on:

  • Child focused routines
  • Emotionally attuned, responsive practice
  • Creating safe, predictable environments
  • Individual planning aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)
  • Supporting children’s emerging autonomy and communication

This role suits an educator who excels in nurturing, calm, relationship‑based practice and who can guide a team in supporting children’s holistic development.


3–4 Years Room Leader – School Readiness, Extended Learning & ACT Preschool Program

The second position leads our 3–4 Years Program, delivering high‑quality, play‑based learning experiences that foster school readiness, social competence, and confident independence.

This role requires:

  • Strong skills in intentional teaching, inquiry‑based learning, and extended learning cycles
  • Leadership in planning and documenting a rich educational program aligned with the EYLF
  • Experience supporting children’s transition to school and understanding the developmental needs of 3–4 year old.

Awareness of the ACT Government’s 300 Hours Free Preschool Program, including:

  • its purpose and structure
  • family eligibility and participation
  • the interface between early childhood education and ACT preschool expectations
  • supporting families with information and transition pathways

Educators in this room will work closely with families and community partners to ensure continuity of learning as children prepare for their next educational steps.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the room in planning and delivering age-appropriate programs.

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment while supporting children's wellbeing.

  • Oversee room routines, documentation, and transition plans in collaboration with families and team.

  • Provide leadership, manage team dynamics, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Act as the primary contact for families and manage enrolments.

You will have:

  • Diploma, working towards a Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent)

  • A valid and up to date Working with Vulnerable person card (WWVP Card).

  • A current First Aid Certificate HLTAID012 with Asthma and Anaphylaxis training.  

  • Advanced skills, knowledge and experience in early childhood development.

  • Developed communication and interpersonal skills, combined with pro-active hands-on attitude.

  • Excellent comprehension of English.  

  • Considerable experience in documentation and planning in accordance to with the EYLF.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience in management in the early childhood care and education sector.
  • Knowledge of the Assessment and Rating process.
  • Knowledge of the 3-Year-Old initiative, and 300-hour preschool.
